NAHANT – It may be a little easier for beach-goers at the Nahant Beach Reservation to find a parking spot in the lot for the duration of the summer.Last month the $20 million Nahant Causeway roadway and drainage reconstruction project temporarily reduced the 1,200 parking spaces at the popular beach lot to 600. As the mercury soared this month, it was not uncommon to see a flashing road sign at the rotary announcing the parking lot was filled to capacity.DCR Spokesman Wendy Fox said additional parking is available at the Nahant Beach Reservation effective immediately.”We were able to reconfigure the parking lot,” she said. “We have 790 spaces now instead of only 600. We also have 29 handicapped spots available and two 50-foot sections for buses. It’s a very popular beach and we’re very pleased we were able to add parking spots for the summer.”Parking is $3 a day and Fox said visitors should park only in marked spots.”Vehicles parked anywhere that is not a designated parking spot will be subject to being ticketed and towed,” she said. “Anyone parking in a handicapped spot must have a valid handicapped sticker and only buses are allowed to park in the bus zones.”
