LYNN – Once again, the Gannon Silver Classic managed to provide a surprise ending as the team of Ryan McDermott and John Heath charged from out of the pack on Sunday thanks to a final-round 58 to take a three-stroke victory over a trio of teams in the prestigious championship.Click here for a photo gallery.McDermott and Heath entered Sunday’s final 18 holes trailing leaders Harley Greist-John Markee by three shots. Teeing off half an hour before the leaders and on the opposite side of the golf course, McDermott and Heath quietly went about their business.By the time they finished on Sunday night, they had carded a round of 12-under to break out of a pack of contenders that was 23 teams deep when play began on Sunday.The day’s biggest move came from the team of Dennis Nigro and Ed Holland, who started Sunday six shots off the lead but also carded a 58 to move all the way into a tie for second at day’s end. They would share second with Dan Deveney-Dean Kerrins and John Berg-Mike Timmons, who shot matching rounds of 63-62 to finish at 15-under for the championship.Sharing fifth were the teams of Vic Grasso-Peter Rowe; Fred Riley-Wayne Berry and Terry Ward-Mike Lauranzano. Ward and Laurenzano might win the award for best comeback of the tournament as they started on Saturday with a quadruple bogey on the par-4 10th before rallying to play the final 35 holes in 17-under, including a round of 60 on Sunday.Capping the top 10 were the teams of Len D’Avolio-Art Cusack (who also shot 60 on Sunday), Markee-Greist and Mark Thibault-Jim McKeever at 12-under.
