MARBLEHEAD – With eight applicants so far for the Transfer Station Building Committee and possibly three more in the works, the Board of Health has held off on naming any members to the panel until the end of August. The deadline for applications is Friday, Aug. 27. The board is scheduled to meet Tuesday, Aug. 31 to name the committee. The committee will be asked to oversee the scale-down of the $22.2 million transfer station construction project that was defeated in a June 15 debt exclusion override.Director of Public Health Wayne Attridge has stopped all current design work and he hopes to return to next year’s Town Meeting with a choice of options.Attridge recommended a committee of five, seven or nine voting members, with a Board of Health member as one of the voting members. He and Town Planner Becky Curran will serve on the committee as non-voting members. The applicants so far include retired police officer Brian Hitchcock, accountant Elizabeth Genovese, Naugus Avenue resident Matthew Herring, Green Street resident Jean Oliphant, State Street resident Patrick der Voorn, Sheldon Road resident Barry Zeff, Baldwin Road resident Alfred Doherty and Angenica Terrace resident Alec Melnick."Most of these are people you know," Attridge said.Board Chairman Helaine Hazlett said she was "pleased" with the applicants so far.
