REVERE – Already serving a sentence for his role in the shooting death of Revere Police officer Daniel Talbot, Derek Lodie appeared in court again Wednesday for his role in a stabbing that took place six days prior to Talbot’s death in 2007.Lodie, 20, of Revere pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault for his role in a Sept. 23, 2007 incident during which he attacked three men, stabbing two of them, according to Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley.Lodie is currently serving a state prison sentence of eight-to-12-years for his role as an accessory prior to the Sept. 29, 2007 shooting of Talbot.Assistant District Attorney Amy Galatis said she was aware of Lodie’s prior conviction and said that Wednesday’s case is in no way related to the other case. Galatis recommended that Lodie serve four-to-six years in state prison after he completes his current sentence, which Superior Court Judge John C. Crastley imposed to be served concurrently with the eight-to-12-year sentence.Galatis told the court that on the evening of the stabbing, “three young men were walking in the area of Cooledge Street in Revere when they were approached by Lodie.” Lodie is said to have then argued with the three men and “lunged” at one of the victims, whom Galatis described as the “smallest of the three.”When the other two victims attempted to defend their friend, Lodie stabbed them, before running into a housing development nearby. One of the male victims, now 21 years old, sustained three stab wounds to the area of his abdomen and chest. A second male victim, now 22 years old, was sliced on his thumb, while the third male victim, whom Lodie had first targeted, was not stabbed.Witnesses called 911 and helped the victims to an ambulance. Revere Police arrived and spoke to those on scene. One of those people was Michael Picardi, 23, an associate of Lodie (who caused an uproar in 2008 when he wore a T-shirt that said, “Free Lodie” at a Revere parade), who allegedly spoke to police and purposefully gave them a name of another person, who was not involved, as the perpetrator of the stabbing. That information led police to seek out and obtain a warrant for that person, who was subsequently charged and cleared two months later. Picardi is charged with accessory after the fact and misleading police under the witness intimidation statue for his statements to police. He is due to return to court on those charges Sept. 3. Lodie was represented by attorney J.W. Carney, Jr.
