LYNN – An East Boston man has been arrested in Georgia for Tuesday’s shooting death of Luis Raul Rodriguez, a former Golden Gloves boxer who trained and coached at Rivera Brothers boxing club in Lynn.Rodriguez, 29, was slain outside a housing complex at 230 Central Ave. in Chelsea, where acquaintances said he was visiting his girlfriend.According to police, Jonathan Carvalho, 20, of East Boston, shot Rodriguez multiple times in the torso before fleeing the scene that afternoon. A noontime 911 call brought police to the parking lot where Rodriguez lay dying. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.Massachusetts State troopers and Chelsea police homicide detectives traced Carvalho to Georgia where he was taken into custody Thursday. Carvalho will be arraigned in Chelsea District Court upon his return to Massachusetts, according to Erika Gully-Santiago, spokesman for Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley.Rodriguez won a Golden Gloves championship in 2005, bringing honors to the Lynn boxing club where he often served as mentor to younger pugilists.
