LYNN – In conditions that were better suited for the ducks and geese that call the ponds home at Gannon Golf Course, the 2010 Gannon Ladies Classic once again provided another in a series of spectacular finishes that have become the norm lately.Surviving weather that made it feel more like the British Open at times, three teams wound up in a sudden death playoff after finishing the two-day event at 11-under par. In the end, it didn’t take long to decide the outcome as Mary Hunt hit her second shot on the first playoff hole to within two feet of the cup for a birdie that gave her and partner Julie Lombara the win over Linda Courtemanche-Dawn Baribeau and Colleen Richards-Joyce Agganis.Hunt-Lombara and Courtemanche-Baribeau started the day tied for the lead and in the final pairing following opening round 62’s. Richards and Agganis began the day three shots back and were a group ahead of the leaders but fired a stellar final round 66 to finish at 131 for the two days.The lead group would each shoot 69 to force the three-way playoff and the quick ending.Chris Lynch-Carol Mahar finished one shot out of the playoff after following an opening round 64 with a final round 68. The day’s biggest move came from Nancy Gheringhelli-Nancy Patten, who shot an 8-under 63 to jump from a tie for 12th to a tie for fifth with Carol Mills-Patty Roderick.
