SWAMPSCOTT – The rash of car breaks that has plagued the town this month continued this week.Detective Tim Cassidy said multiple unlocked vehicles were entered early Tuesday morning in the vicinity of Forest Avenue and Sherwood Road.”All the cars entered were unlocked,” Cassidy said. “There were about six cars rifled through but nothing was reported missing. It looks like they were just trying cars doors looking for unlocked vehicles with valuable items in them.”This was the latest in a rash of car breaks in town including several on Aug. 18.”It is not known at this time if these breaks are connected to earlier car breaks in town,” Cassidy said.Cassidy said four vehicles were broken into on Aug. 18 in the vicinity of Roy Street and landscaping equipment was stolen. Thomas G Markee, 116 Lawton Ave., Lynn was arrested and charged in connection with the Aug. 18 car breaks.Earlier this month a group of Swampscott teens were arrested and charged with allegedly taking items from several cars in the area of Hawthorne’s Crossing at Essex Street. Jake Donahue, 18, of 54 Columbia St.; Nicholas P. Iudice, 18, of 52 Burpee Road; Joshua D. Dembkoski, 18, of 12 Fairview Ave. and Matthew Collins, 18, of 60 Pleasant View Ave., were each charged with two counts of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle to commit a felony. The teens were were arraigned at Lynn District Court and released on personal recognizance by Judge Dunbar Livingston.Cassidy urged residents to remove personal property from their vehicles and to keep their cars locked.”These appear to be crimes of opportunity,” Cassidy said. “If you see or hear something suspicious call the station.”
