LYNN – Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing Needham teen who came to Lynn Saturday night in search of a party and seemingly vanished.Mikayla Bennett, 17, was said to have been dropped off at an MBTA bus stop in Malden around 8:30 p.m. by her boyfriend’s mother in her attempt to make it to a party somewhere in Lynn. Bennett’s mother, Lisa, said her daughter was home on a weekend pass from a Department of Children and Family Services residential program.”I’ve never heard her talk about Lynn before, so my mind is just wandering,” Bennett said. “My only guess is that someone has harmed her because I don’t know where she would go.”As of now, Lynn Police Captain Michael Mageary said the department is currently not investigating the situation and that it is solely being handled by the Needham Police. Mageary did say that Needham officers spoke with a Lynn man Wednesday who may be involved in the case.Mikayla, who is 4-feet, 9-inches tall and 150 lbs., was last seen wearing blue jeans, a brown V-neck shirt, red/white sneakers and a black backpack. She is also said to have a piercing on her lower lip.”She’s type one diabetic, so I’m afraid her insulin has run out and that she needs medical attention,” Bennett said. “People should know that if she’s acting a little strange, it’s because of her medication because she also has thyroid problems and is on other psychological drugs.”Bennett said she never gave her daughter permission to go to the Lynn party and fears she may have met a boy on Facebook and then arranged to meet him. The last time Mikayla spoke with her family was around 11 p.m.”She didn’t have her phone on her, so she must have borrowed someone’s phone on the street in Lynn and told her step-father that she had a ride home,” she said. “She wouldn’t have run away, because she had asked her boyfriend if he wanted to go to the party with her and he said no. She’s stayed out a couple times before, but not like this.”Needham Lt. Christopher Baker said anyone with information is asked to contact the station at 781-455-7570. A candlelight vigil has been planned to take place tonight in Needham.
