The last time the Peabody girls soccer team took the field, it saw its hopes for a North championship end at Manning Field in the Division 1 North finals after a 3-0 loss to Acton-Boxboro. On Saturday, the Tanners began their 2010 campaign facing the same team that ended their undefeated dreams of 2009.It was a drastically different outcome on Saturday as Victoria DiGiacomo scored 40 seconds into the game to stun the hosts and sophomore sensation Hayley Dowd added a goal late in the second half as the Tanners beat the Colonials, 2-0, handing A-B its first regular season loss in four years.”This was a game that the girls were looking forward to,” Peabody coach Dennis Desroches said. “We lost 3-0 to them in the North final last year and that didn’t really tell the story of that game. The girls came ready to play (Saturday) and really set the tone from the start.”Peabody took the opening kick and immediately attacked as Dowd send Madison Doherty streaking down the left wing. She sent a perfect cross to DiGiacomo in the box for the goal at the 38-second mark.”To score against A-B is the hardest thing to do,” Desroches said. “They have an incredible defense and goalkeeper and getting down 1-0 to them is like being down 10 goals.”The Colonials would struggle all game to get anything going against a Peabody defense led by Cayla Bucci and goalkeeper Brienna Griffin. A-B would hit the crossbar midway through the second half before Dowd took an Emily Manoogian feed and buried the Colonials with 17 minutes left.Danvers 2, Central Catholic 1At Dr. Deering Stadium in Danvers, the Falcons (1-0) got a pair of goals from junior Corey Persson and two assists from Kylie Plaza in the win.FOOTBALLConcord-Carlisle 32, Beverly 19At Hurd Stadium in Beverly, the Panthers (0-1) had no answers for Gibriel Coy as the Patriots running back scored four times to lead his team to victory.Beverly jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a three-yard run from Nick Theriault.
