SWAMPSCOTT – The police department is organizing a hands-on harvest fair where youngsters will have a chance to sit in the driver’s seat.Detective Rose Cheever and Officer Candace Doyle are coordinating the event, which they said would appeal to children of all ages.?We wanted to do something a little different for Public Safety Day this year,” Cheever said. “Children of all ages will have the opportunity to explore trucks of all shapes and sizes including fire engines, police cars, construction vehicles, a cement mixer and other fun cars and trucks. Kids can get up close to the vehicles, sit in the driver’s seat, honk horns and turn on sirens.”Doyle said Action Ambulance is the sponsor and the event is being hosted by the police department, Swampscott Fire Department and the Department of Public Works.?It will be a fun family event,” Doyle said. “We’re looking forward to the first annual Swampscott Harvest Fair.”Cheever added there would be other activities for children including face painting, pumpkin decorating, a moon bounce and mini-tractor rides.?There will be popcorn, cotton candy and food booths,” she said. “We want a fun family day that will bring the community together.”Cheever said the free event has been scheduled for Oct. 3 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the grounds of Town Hall and in Linscott Park.Cheever said the department is looking for individuals interested in displaying a truck as well as food vendors or other businesses that would like to have a booth at the festival. The organizers are also looking for donations of small pumpkins for the pumpkin decorating, Additional information is available by calling Cheever or Officer Candace Doyle at 781-595-1111 or sending an e-mail to [email protected] or [email protected]
