September 18, 2010 by Matthew Roy

PEABODY – The Peabody football team bounced back from a less than perfect effort against St. John’s Prep in a big way on Friday at Coley Lee Field against Cambridge. The Tanners had two runners, Nat Gaye and Jason Hiou, each go over 100 yards and both had touchdown runs of 90 yards as Peabody breezed to a 34-6 win over the Falcons.”We needed a win like that,” Peabody coach Scott Wlasuk said. “I was proud of the way the kids responded after a tough loss and played a complete game on both sides of the ball for four quarters.”Peabody got off to a quick start as Brady Doyle had touchdown runs of 28 and five yards to give the Tanners a 13-0 lead early. Then came the marathon runs.Hiou actually had an 88-yard touchdown run called back via a penalty before going 90 yards on the next play to score. On Peabody’s next possession, Gaye dashed for his 90-yard score to give the Tanners full control of the contest.”It was really electrifying to see something like that,” Wlasuk said. “Nat is capable of breaking the long run anytime and Jason has really developed as runner through his track experience.”Greg Celentano’s touchdown in the fourth quarter put a cap on the near flawless day for Peabody.Lynnfield 35, Georgetown 0At Lynnfield Middle School, the Pioneers (2-0) had four different players record touchdowns and saw the defense put the shackles on the visitors all game long.”We played pretty well,” Lynnfield coach Neal Weidman said. “Its good to win a game you should going forward. We know we’re going to play tougher teams going forward.”Rick Beradino had two touchdowns to lead the Lynnfield offense. The Pioneers are back in action next Friday when they venture to Donaldson Field in Peabody for a date with Bishop Fenwick.
