Magician (0-1-1) keeper Cassie Rogers then set out to make that goal stand up and she nearly did despite Danvers (2-0-1) having a 49-4 shot advantage.”It took a wakeup call for us, with them scoring, for us to start playing hard,” Danvers coach Jimmy Hinchion said. “I give Marblehead credit. They played hard and they earned a point. I feel like we didn’t.”Fenwick 2, St. Mary’s 0At Donaldson Field in Peabody, Kristin Verrette had a goal and assist as the Crusaders (3-0, 2-0 Catholic Central League/Large) jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half and hung on from there.”Fenwick is a great team and they have a lot of firepower,” St. Mary’s coach Jim Foley said.Lauren Toye-O’Donnell added a goal late in the first half to give the Crusaders their lead at the half. Becca Graves stopped all seven shots she faced to post the shutout.St. Mary’s is 1-1-1 in the CCL, 2-2-1 overall.Saugus 2, English 1At Manning Field, the Bulldogs (3-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead early on Shawna Henry’s fifth goal of the season before the Sachems (4-1) rallied to grab the lead by halftime.”It was a terrific game,” English coach Ed McNeil said. “We played really well. I was very pleased.”Cecelia Cresta-Devine and Katie Evans had the Sachem goals. Gabby Cogliano and Emily Quinlan played well for Saugus while English got outstanding games from Mackenzie Clark and goalkeeper Lindsay Roy.Winthrop 3, Classical 0At Miller Field in Winthrop, the Rams (1-3, 0-1 NEC South) got a good game from defender Christine Francois, but had no answer for the Viking offense.”It was a very tough game for us,” Classical coach Kerri Altieri said. “They were stronger than us offensively and we had a difficult time fending off their offense.”Brianna Capone played well offensively for the Rams.Peabody 4, Swampscott 1At Swampscott, the Tanners led 3-0 at the half thanks to two goals by Haley Dowd and one by Deanna Moreschi. Emily Manoogian finished things off with a second half goal.The Big Blue spoiled the shutout with about 15 minutes remaining in the game when Kelly Birchmore scored on a penalty kick.”Playing Swampscott, we always find it’s a good game,” Peabody coach Dennis Desroches said. “Swampscott always comes ready to play. They don’t quit. They play 80 minutes. They’re a strong, physical squad.”Peabody is 2-0 and Swampscott is 0-2.Salem 1, Beverly 0At Bertram Field in Salem, Brenna Burke’s goal with eight minutes left in the game was the difference as Emma Titus recorded her third shutout of the season for the Witches (3-0-1).
