Resident irate over graffiti at site

MARBLEHEAD – The only angry protest about the YMCA project in downtown Marblehead Tuesday had nothing to do with the proposal itself – but with the swastikas and other graffiti vandals have drawn on the side of the building.Susan Fader’s husband Nicholas was a longtime Planning Board member and her parents were Holocaust survivors. She came before the board Tuesday evening to vent her impassioned frustration at the lack of building maintenance. The graffiti is located on the side of the main entrance to the building, alongside the park containing the town’s war memorials – including a statue commemorating World War II."Is the current owner going to let the building go to hell until this process gets done?" she asked. "If those swastikas are not removed soon I’ll be there to spray-paint over them myself.""I do not tolerate this. It’s been going on for weeks," she said, explaining that she complained to the police and police said they would contact the owner for action, but nothing has been done.Attorney Paul Lynch, representing owner George Wattendorf at the meeting, said Wattendorf would take care of the matter. "I’m sure he doesn’t know anything about it," Lynch said.
