It didn’t come easy on Saturday in Braintree, but the Salem football team got its third straight win to begin the season with a 34-32 win over Archbishop Williams.The Witches survived a kick return for a touchdown and an interception return for a score that helped Williams grab a 20-7 lead in the second quarter.Salem had taken a 7-0 lead on Max Feeley’s six yard run and then fought back in front when Brad Skeffington dashed 18 yards for a score and then hit Chris Bozarjian for another 18-yard touchdown to make it 21-20 in the second quarter.Williams pushed back ahead with 3:11 left in the half before Feeley picked off a pass and returned it 31 yards before scoring from the four to make it 27-26, Salem, at the half.After the teams combined to put up 34 points in the second quarter, the defense kept the game scoreless through the third period. Salem pushed its lead to eight when Antonio Reyes took an interception 19 yards to the house to make it 34-26 with 8:00 left.The Bishops kept plugging and cut the lead to 34-32 late before Salem’s Kyle Hardy recovered an onside kick to seal the win.GIRLS SOCCERLynnfield 3, Gloucester 1At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (5-1) got a pair of goals from Emily Solomon and another from Allegra DiCesare to get the win against a Fisherman team coached by former Pioneer player Alex White.”It was fun,” Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont said of the game. “It was a neat experience and we knew coming in that Alex would have her team ready to go and (the Fishermen) would be well-coached.”Nareh Sahekian was outstanding in net for Lynnfield, turning aside 15 shots.
