Chris Birotte of the English boys cross country team ran away with first place, but Saugus’s depth was the difference in the meet, as the Sachems defeated the Bulldogs 26-32 Tuesday at Breakheart Reservation.Birotte finished first overall in this 3.1-mile race (19:37). The second place finisher was almost a minute behind Birotte. Also running well for English (0-3) were: Alex Funez, fourth overall (20:39); Peter Matu, sixth overall (21:05) and Matt Blaney, eighth overall (21:36). Leading the way for the Sachems was Jimmy Harrington, second overall (20:26). Also running well for Saugus were: Daniel Cacciola, third overall (20:31); Joe Sobchuk, fifth overall (20:50); Joe Melanaphy, seventh overall (21:13) and Evan Covell, ninth overall (21:45). Saugus improved its record to 1-2.Peabody 24, Marblehead 31At Marblehead, Peabody’s Nick Christensen led the way. Christensen finished first overall (16:13). Also running well for Peabody were T.J. D’Amato, third overall (16:56) and Evan Braz, fourth overall (17:03). The Magicians had strong performances from James Wigglesworth, second overall (16:34) and Henry Pratt, fifth overall (17:05). Marblehead is now 2-1.Swampscott 19, Danvers 45At Danvers, Swampscott’s Peter Hale led the way. Hale finished first overall (17:21). Also running strong for the Big Blue were Jake Conaty, third overall (17:44) and Nick Hartman, fourth overall (17:48). Swampscott is now 3-0.Revere 15, Winthrop 50At Revere, the trio of Mike Fitzpatrick, Ernesto Bonilla and Rawlings Toglan led the way for Revere. Fitzpatrick finished first overall (17:07), Bonilla finished second overall (17:31) and Toglan finished third overall (17:43). Revere is now 1-2.GIRLS CROSS COUNTRYMarblehead 24, Peabody 43At Marblehead, the Magicians found a way to emerge on top of this 2.9-mile course, despite the Tanners taking first place. Leading the way for Marblehead (3-0) was Mary Kauffman, second overall (20:24). Also running well for the Magicians were: Chloe Heskett, fourth overall (20:47); Claire Depew, fifth overall (20:51); Madeline Piela, sixth overall (21:14) and Molly Depew, seventh overall (21:28). Peabody had strong efforts from Katrina Rocha, first overall (19:37) and Sarah May, third overall (20:36).Swampscott 25, Danvers 30At Danvers, the Big Blue trio of Hannah King, Karissa King and Emma Walsh led the way. Hannah King finished first overall (21:07), Karissa King finished third overall (21:27) and Walsh finished fourth overall (21:28). Swampscott is now 3-0.
