Girls Soccer: Persson’s late goal lifts Danvers past Big Blue

Corey Persson’s late goal for the Danvers girl soccer team lifted the Falcons over the Big Blue 1-0 at Swampscott Thursday.Persson scored the lone goal with three minutes left in the game that was assisted from Gabby Vega.”My team played a pretty good game tonight,” Danvers coach Jim Hinchion said. “We had a few missed opportunities but you have to give the Swampscott defense credit.”The Falcons (5-1-1) Kellie Macdonald and Allison Tivnan had very strong performances. Swampscott coach Francesco Recchia was very happy with his teams’ performance.”(We) played a very solid game as a whole. It was a well played game that we unfortunately came up just short in,” Recchia said.Playing well for the Big Blue was goalie Bridget Genoversa-Wong (11 saves). Emily Cerra played a strong game on defense. Swampscott is now 1-5.Peabody 3, Beverly 1At Peabody, It was tied 1-1 at the half but the second half Peabody took over. Peabody out shot Beverly 24-5 in the game. The Tanners Haley Dowd and Victoria Digiacomo led the way. Digiacomo had two goals and Dowd chipped in with one goal.”My team came out a little flat tonight, but we got it together in the second half,” Peabody coach Dennis Desroches said. “Beverly gave my team a good run but I am happy we came out with the victory.”The Tanners Cayla Bucci had a strong game on the defensive side. Peabody (6-0) plays Salem Monday.Saugus 5, Classical 0At Saugus, the Sachems had a 2-0 lead at the half and never looked back.Leading the way for Saugus (7-1-1) was Jackie Russo. Russo scored two goals. Saugus’s Nicole Lynch, Gabby Cogliano and C.C Devine all chipped in with one goal each.Ashley Firth and Kaley Dechristoforo had strong games on the defensive side. Melissa Toomey had a strong game in net (6 saves).Classical had a strong team performance despite starting goalie Mackenzie Coppinger injured. Francesca Galeazzi and Jessica Perez played one half each in the place of Coppinger (12 saves each).Also playing well for Classical was Jennie Erekson and Brianna Capone on the offensive side of the ball. Classical is now 1-5.PMA 1, Tech 0At Manning Field, it was a defensive stalemate all game that PMA would finally break through. Tech coach Jeremy McKeen was very happy with his teams’ performance.”It was a good game from start to finish. We had a couple key girls injured today and we still almost found a way to come out on top. If my team keeps playing like this, good things will happen,” McKeen said.Playing well for Tech was Ryce Colon on the defensive side. Jackie Ruiz and Dayry “Cookie” Arevalo had both played well on the offensive side. Mah Weah Weah had a great game in net with 30 plus saves. Tech is now 1-7.Salem 1, Marblehead 0At Salem, the Magicians had a strong team effort despite the result. Salem scored the lone goal of the game in the first half and never looked back. Marblehead freshmen Caroline Helmes had a very strong game anchoring the Magician defense.”My team played very well today just could not find the net,” Marblehead’s Tracy DeLuca said.
