The St. Mary’s golf team squeaked out a close one in a 167-165 win over Cardinal Spellman at D.W. Field Golf Course in Brockton.Cam O’Neill had the hot hand for the Spartans, racking up 28 points. Chris Price, Brian Griffin, Dave Deschenes and Justin Lappin had 24 points and Bradley Dill, 22 points. Lappin and Dill, who were in the final two groups, came through with some clutch points down the stretch to help pull out the win. St. Mary’s is 9-5 overall and 6-3 in the Catholic Central League.Saugus 37, Swampscott 35At Tedesco Country Club, Saugus’ depth was the difference in the match. Leading the way for the Sachems was Mike Kotowski, who won 5-4 at No. 1. The other winners for Saugus were Kyle Powers (7-2) and Kevin Maggiore, 5 1/2-3 1/2. Swampscott had strong performances from Ryan Wheeler, who won at No. 6 (6-3) and Matt Videtta, a 5 1/2-3 1/2 winner at No. 7. Saugus (7-7) ended a four-year winless drought at Swampscott.Peabody 42 1/2, English 20 1/2At The Meadows, English had a strong team effort despite the result. The Bulldogs’ Nick Needham played strong at number three (4-5). Dan Rustani and Christina Lannon lost 3 1/2-5 1/2 in strong outings.
