Roundup: Fenwick girls soccer team clinches tourney spot vs. Swampscott

Maura Doyle had a pair of goals to lead the Bishop Fenwick girls soccer team past Swampscott, 6-1, at Donaldson Field in Peabody on Monday.Click here for a photo gallery.”We played really well,” Fenwick coach Karen Guillemette said.The Crusaders (9-1-1) locked up a state tournament berth in style as they ran out to a 5-0 halftime lead and were never challenged from there.Caitlin Parrott; Laura Toye-O’Donnell; Rose Fantozzi and Kristin Verrette also had goals for Fenwick.English 2, Everett 1At Manning Field, the game was scoreless at halftime and the Crimson Tide grabbed the lead early in the second 40 minutes before English (5-7) rallied for a pair in the final 20 minutes.Brianna Moreno tied the game at 1-1 and Briana Vaughan provided the game-winner. Abby Martocchio assisted on both goals while Karissa Burton made 10 stops in net.Revere 3, Winthrop 2At Miller Field in Winthrop, Marissa Parent, Gina Restiano and Cassandra DiBella had the goals as the Patriots (5-4-1) overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit.Lynnfield 0, Triton 0At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (9-1-2) were held in check by a tough Viking team and couldn’t get anything going offensively. Nareh Sahekian stopped all three shots she faced for Lynnfield.BOYS SOCCEREnglish 4, Marblehead 1At Manning Field, English boys soccer coach Kerry King knew his team had a chance to be good this season. But not even King could have ever expected the start his Bulldogs have gotten off to this season.Leo Awokang had a pair of goals as the Bulldogs defeated Marblehead to improve to an impressive 6-1-2 on the season.”We’re playing really well,” King said. “We did an excellent job of controlling the ball. Our short passing game really clicked.”Jefferson Fobellah added a goal and an assist for English while Kalebo Ntamuhanga added a goal. Midfielder A.J. Xhemalji had two assists.The Bulldogs are back in action today (4) when they take on Peabody.St. Mary’s 3, Williams 1At Manning Field, St. Mary’s (6-5-1) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first half and then added an insurance goal midway through the second half to knock off the Bishops.”It was a great game, one of the best team-wise for this year,” St. Mary’s coach Mike D’Agostino said.Julian Yourawski had a goal and an assist for the Spartans. Stephen Stanko and Ralph Bertrand added the other goals with Jerry Tran and Pedro-Lucas Ferreira having assists.Mike Campbell made six stops in net to get the win.Lynnfield 1, Triton 0At Byfield, George Levantakis’ first-half goal was all the offense the Pioneers (6-3-3) needed as Jerry Reed posted the shutout in goal.St. John’s 3, Danvers 0At Danvers, Ryan McManus scored twice and Tyler Newhall added his fourth goal of the season as the Eagles (7-2-2) beat their cross-town rivals.Adam Colella stopped three shots in posting his sixth shutout of the season.VOLLEYBALLMatignon 3, St. Mary’s 1At Conigliaro Gymnasium, the Spartans (1-12) played well but dropped three close games to the Warriors. St. Mary’s got good performances from Tori and Taylor Faieta along with Megan Buckley.GOLFClassical 41, Revere 31At Cedar Glen in Saugus, the Rams (1-8) got in the win column for the first time as Steve Nelson, Brett Erelli, Lee Nelson and Russ Holmes picked up match wins.FIELD HOCKEYDanvers 3, Peabody 1At Danvers, the Falcons (6-4-1) got a pair of goals from Seth Kamens and a goal from Katherine Leonard to knock off the 2-7 Tanners.
