The English golf team got its first win of the season, as the Bulldogs squeaked by Revere 30-29 at Gannon Golf Course Tuesday.English coach Tara Friedman was very proud of her team’s performance.”I am just happy for my kids. They put in a lot of hard work and it’s good to see it pay off with a win,” Friedman said.Leading the way for English (1-10) was Joe Lannon at number one (8 1/2-1/2). Other winners for English were Jared Fossa, No. 2 (5 1/2-3 1/2) and Ben Woodward, number five (6 1/2-1 1/2). Norton, at number two (8-1, 5-4); Powers, at number four (8-1, 6-3) and Groark, at number six (6-3, 5-4). Other winners for Saugus were Nick Freehling, number three (5-4); Nick Haggarty, number five (5-4) and Kevin Maggorie, number eight (6-3). Saugus (9-10) is one win away from qualifying for the state tournament. It will square off against Winthrop Thursday.St. John’s 229, Barnstable 251At Barnstable, St. John’s had a strong team effort across the board. Leading the way for St. John’s were Nick McLaughlin, Tim Cunningham and Nick Pandelena, who all scored 37. Marblehead native Matt Bullock and Peabody native Brandon Dingle each scored 39. Jake Danforth had a strong performance as well (40). St. John’s (9-3) plays Malden Catholic Wednesday.AC 144, St. Mary’s 134At Gannon Golf Course, St. Mary’s Cam O’Neil led the way with 27 points. Nikko Markham (21 points) and Ryan Madden (20 points) had strong performances as well. St. Mary’s is now 9-6.Beverly 58, Classical 14At Beverly, Classical had a strong team effort despite the result. Conor McCall (number three), Brett Erelli (number 5) and Mac St. Ives (number seven) all played very strong for Classical. Beverly had seven out of eight players shoot under 40. Classical is now 1-9.Salem 39 1/2, Peabody 32 1/2At Olde Salem Greens, the Witches (10-4, 8-2 Northeastern Conference) won in the one, five, six and eight spots with Cameron Darmody, 6-3; Kyle Florence, 7-2; Sarah Chasse, 5 1/2-3 1/2 and Matt Cocozella, 8-1, respectively.Peabody had wins from Kyle Franey at two, 6 1/2-2 1/2; Andrew McCarthy, three, 7-2, and Evan Gray, four, 5-4.
