LYNN – A Lynn man was arrested Thursday night around 10 p.m. after threatening and assaulting a woman twice within a span of a few hours.Elvis Perez, 44, of 33 Lincoln St., was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault, intimidation of a witness, threats to commit a crime, assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of heroin.Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the Lincoln Street address around 4 p.m. and found a woman bleeding and crying hysterically. The woman told police that she had been in bed sleeping when Perez arrived. She told police she could smell alcohol on his breath and he appeared to be under the influence of drugs.Perez began throwing things around the apartment. He smashed several light bulbs on the floor and then used the glass shards to cut the woman’s arm.The woman jumped out of bed and grabbed a steak knife and told Perez to leave or she would stab him. She tried to dial police on her cell phone but but Perez would not let her make the call. She tried to leave the room but when she got near the door Perez wrapped the strap of her purse around her neck and said, “You’re not going anywhere.”While Perez was choking her, the woman was able to grab the steak knife and stab Perez in the arm. Perez let go of the purse strap and ran out of the building. The woman was then able to call police for help.The officers who responded advised the woman to get a protective order, but she said she would wait and do it in the morning.Around 10 p.m. police received another call for a domestic dispute at 33 Lincoln St. When they arrived, they found the woman outside of the apartment. Perez had locked himself inside.Police ordered Perez to open the door, which he did after a few minutes. Perez was arrested and searched. Police found a small bag of heroin in his pocket.Perez was taken to Union Hospital and treated for his stab wound. He was then brought back to the police station and booked.
