Peabody shuts down Revere

PEABODY – Peabody’s football team clicked on all cylinders Saturday night at Coley Lee Field. The Tanners, 2-4, bottled up Revere running back Trae Weathers, holding him to 60 yards and keeping him off the scoreboard. And they had a couple of backs eclipse the 100-yard mark with Nat Gaye rushing for 168 yards on 16 carries and D.J. Henrick going in for 100 more. The result was a convincing 33-8 rout over the Patriots that left one coach extremely proud of his troops and the other scratching his head.Revere8Peabody33 “I couldn’t have been more proud of the way my kids played,” said Scott Wlasuk, whose Tanners have been involved in some close games in the last few weeks. “We had a couple of guys have outstanding performances, but I’d really like to give the nod to my offensive and defensive lines. They did a heck of a job.”On the other side, Revere’s Lou Cicatelli, while bemoaning the loss of quarterback Paul Norton (who injured his ankle last week at Marblehead), offered no excuses.”Never,” he said. “Peabody dominated us on both sides of the ball. Our offensive line didn’t show up ? didn’t block anyone.”And without Norton (and the threat of the play-action that the Patriots have used so effectively this season), they lined up eight to 10 guys in the box (to stop Weathers).”Peabody got the first two touchdowns to take a 13-0 lead (on a nine-yard pass to Jason Hiou from Brian DeAngelis; and Henrick’s nine-yard run) before Revere finally got on the board courtesy of a safety.”Their fullback (Henrick) really killed us,” Cicatelli said. “We practiced for him all week, but every time he ran, he got eight, nine yards a pop.”Peabody scored two more times before the half ended. Gaye had a 44-yard scamper and Brady Doyle took it to the house from 34 yards out.Gaye scored again in the third quarter, on a four-yard run, and Henrick added the two-point conversion.Revere’s Quintin Wesley closed out the scoring with an 11-yard fourth-quarter run.
