PEABODY – Evidently, winning the NEC Open is in the water in Gloucester.Three times in the last four tries, a Fisherman, namely Josh Salah, had taken home the Northeastern Conference’s top golf prize. Well, another Gloucester golfer now has his name on that title also.A day after finishing second in the Division 2 North individual championship at Far Corners, Tyler Conigliari turned in a sterling round of 75 at The Meadow at Peabody to claim the NEC Open title by four shots over Peabody’s Kyle Franey and Athan Goulos and Marblehead’s Andrew Scholnick.Click here for a photo gallery.Conigliari was deadly consistent Tuesday, as he made a pair of birdies in the first four holes to get his round kick-started and also avoided a major hiccup that doomed both Goulos and Franey’s rounds.Gloucester’s ace shot an even-par 36 on the front nine and added a 4-over 39 on the back side to polish off his round of 75. Goulos and Franey’s days were both sent off the tracks at the par-4 10th.The Tanners’ top two players saw both their rounds derailed by triple-bogies at the 10th and bogeys on the short par-5 11th. Goulos would finish with a 41 on the back nine while Franey carded a 40.Scholnick, the only other player to break into the 70’s on Tuesday, made 10 pars and eight bogeys in a very steady round. He finished two shots ahead of Winthrop’s Jake Rand, who completed the top five players.Beverly’s Adam Capodilupo, fresh off helping the Panthers finish third in Monday’s Division 2 North sectional championship, was sixth with an 82 while Swampscott’s Justin Massey and Salem’s Tim Richmond shared seventh a shot further back.Salem’s Cameron Darmody and Danvers’ Colin Delaney each shot 84 to share the ninth spot. For some of the golfers, their work this season isn’t quite done yet. Goulos is off to Longmeadow CC next Tuesday to play in the Division 1 state individual championship while Conigliari and the entire Beverly team will play in the Division 2 state finals.
