The Tech boys soccer team ran out of gas in the second half, as Greater Lowell came from behind and defeated Tech 4-3 at Lowell Tuesday.Tech coach Fred Gallo believed it was a tale of two halves for his team.”My team played a very strong first half. Everything my team wanted to do, they did in the first half. In the second half, my team seemed to run out of gas and did not play the same type of soccer as they did earlier in the game,” Gallo said.Tech jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Klaus Alexis scored the game’s first goal. Greater Lowell answered right away, and tied the game up 1-1 a couple minutes later. Tech took a 2-1 lead at the end of the first half when Jonathan DeLeon scored. Greater Lowell opened the second half with two early goals and took a 3-2 lead. Tech’s Francisco Franco scored Tech’s last goal of the game in the final minute. Tech’s Edwin Alas (sweeper) and Cristian Paxtor (defense) had strong performances. Tech is now 7-5-1.Pentucket 3, Lynnfield 0At Pentucket, it was a defensive stalemate for most of the game that the Pioneers could not break. Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe was pleased with his team’s performance.”My team started off a little slow. They actually played better in the second half; unfortunately Pentucket just played a little better today,” Munroe said.The score was 0-0 at the end of the first half. Pentucket scored an early goal in the second half and never looked back from that point. Steve Knox had a strong performance for the Pioneers. Lynnfield (7-4-3) plays Ipswich Thursday.GIRLS SOCCERTech 0, Minuteman 0At Manning Field, the Tigers turned in their best game of the season. Keeper Mah Weah Weah put up a wall in front of the net and her teammates, Megan Hansen, a freshman forward; Arthina Robert at center midfield and Julissa DeLeon, a freshman stopper, came up big as well. Tech is 1-9-1.Lynnfield 2, Pentucket 1At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (10-2-2) led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Ali Johnson, but Pentucket came back to tie the game at the 45th minute. Lynnfield’s Brittany Hunt came up with the game-winner with nine minutes left (Jenny Schelzi assist). Nareh Sahakian (3 saves) held down the fort in net.FIELD HOCKEYSaugus 2, Peabody 2At Peabody, Saugus came at the Tanners with guns a-blazing, but Peabody still managed to snag the tie thanks to a Kate Teixeira goal with three minutes remaining. Teixeira also scored the first Peabody goal with Alaina Warren and Alysa Gaudet getting an assist each.Courtney Selvage scored the Sachems’ first goal and Nichole Lowe, the second (on a penalty stroke). Peabody goalie Lindsey Lloyd had 21 saves.Man.-Essex 2, Lynnfield 1At Lynnfield, Manchester-Essex has been steamrolling its opponents on a regular basis this season, but the Pioneers put up a good fight. M-E led 1-0 at the half, but Lynnfield sophomore Becky Ladd tied the game with 7:21 remaining. M-E regained the lead a minute or so later and although Lynnfield had a good bid on a corner with time expired, the Pioneers were called for obstruction and the game ended.Heather DeNisco, Tara Doherty, Victoria Hurley and Stephanie Tsui played well, as did goalie Katie Rowe, who had 14 saves. Lynnfield is 3-11-1.VOLLEYBALLFenwick 3, Salem 0At Fenwick, Fenwick won 25-14, 25-5, 25-14 led by the senior trio of Kaela Murphy, Dianna Tauro and Cara McLaughlin. Murphy and Tauro combined to have 15 kills. McLaughlin chipped in with 14 assists. Fenwick (16-1) plays St. Mary’s Thursday.
