NAHANT – It took longer than expected Tuesday night to count the votes in the special election after the town’s ballot reading machine broke shortly after 8 a.m., according to Town Clerk Peggy Barile.Barile said a repairman was called in and the machine was fixed at around 4 p.m.Barile said all ballots that were cast when the machine was down had to be counted by hand.”The votes that were cast when the machine was down were put in an auxiliary bin,” Barile said Tuesday afternoon.”The votes in the auxiliary bin have to be counted by hand. I’m assembling a team of people to come in and help count the ballots after the polls close.”The polls closed at 8 p.m. and counters had the vote counters had the final results shortly before 10 p.m..
