SWAMPSCOTT – Firefighters battled a pre-dawn blaze in a one and a half story Cape on Barnstable Street Wednesday morning.
Capt. John Quinn said firefighters were called to 48 Barnstable St. by police at 5:31 a.m. for a working fire.
?We arrived there was smoke showing from the first floor and there was heavy fire on the back of the building,” Quinn said. “The home suffered significant damage.”
Quinn said no one was injured in the blaze, which took almost two hours to knock down.
When firefighters arrived on the scene one male occupant was outside the home, according to Quinn.
?The house was apparently for sale or being put up for sale,” Quinn said. “The sole male occupant said he had a party the night before but everyone had gone home. There was little to no furniture in the house.”
Lynn and Marblehead assisted at the scene and Salem covered at the station.
Firefighter Robert Faulkner is spearheading the investigation into the blaze, which is still under investigation. State police were at the scene with dogs Wednesday morning in an attempt to track down the cause of the blaze.
The property has an assessed value of $294,100 according to town records.
