The Lynn English football squad hurt itself last week against Swampscott with a pair of costly fourth quarter fumbles, which helped lead to the Bulldogs loss.Last night, the Bulldogs took advantage of eight Revere turnovers (six fumbles and two interceptions), with four of them setting up scoring drives.English did all its scoring in the first half, pounding the Patriots, 42-7, at Della Russo Stadium. The win snaps a two-game Bulldog skid.English42Revere7 Revere (3-4), which began a season-ending five game home stand with last night’s game, scored on the game’s second play when halfback Quintin Wesley scampered down the far sidelines for 77 yards. However, English (4-3) quickly answered with a 12-play, 75-yard drive in which the team amassed five first downs along the way. Back Melvin Taveres, who returned to the lineup after missing last week’s game due to an ankle injury, picked up a pair of nine-yard gains, and added a key fourth-down conversion to the Patriots 11. He put English on the board, closing out the drive with a five-yard run to tie the game.”It was great to have Melvin (92-yard rushing) back, as he gives our team a different look,” said English coach Peter Holey. “He takes a lot of pressure off (quarterback) Tyllor (McDonald).”The Patriots fumbled the ball away on their next possession, giving it to the Bulldogs at the Revere 36. After an incompletion, Taveres and teammate Kwame Johnson contributed runs of five and seven yards, respectively to place the ball at Revere’s 24. McDonald (2-5-0-54) connected with Taveres on an short slant, which the back took down the far sidelines and into the end zone for a 14-7 English lead.English again took advantage of a Patriots miscue on Revere’s following drive. On third-and-12 from the Bulldog 43, quarterback Paul Norton lined up in the shotgun. Yet, the snap sailed over his head, and rolled to the Patriots 30, where English quickly took over. Wasting very little time, McDonald fake-pumped, then found receiver Sal Landingham, who ran the ball into the end zone from the vie with 1:32 remaining in the first period.A fumble by the Patriots at their 45 was recovered by the Bulldogs, which culminated in a nine-yard score by Johnson. Revere fumbled the ball away on the ensuing kickoff, with the Bulldogs taking over at the Patriots’ 13. Back Patrick Dorsey finished off the drive with his two-yard score.Johnson added his second score of the half (with 3:21 remaining) by polishing off a seven play drive with a nifty 30-yard run.”I’m very disappointed,” said Revere coach Lou Cicatell, about his team’s performance. “You can’t give a team like English a short field. They scored off every fumble. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I told the team that we can do one of two things: either pick it up or feel sorry for ourselves “
