SWAMPSCOTT – Teachers and administrators from other districts will visit Swampscott High School on Oct. 31 as part of an evaluation by the Commission on Public Secondary Schools of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).Principal Layne Millington said the visiting committee would be co-chaired by Marshfield High School Assistant Principal Cheryl O’Brien and Cohasset Public Schools Superintendent Denise Walsh. Millington said the purpose of the visit is so NEASC can assist the faculty “in its pursuit of quality education for its students.””The purpose of this evaluation visit is to review and determine from an outside professional viewpoint the extent to which the school is meeting the Standards of Accreditation,” Millington said. “The members of the visiting committee are contributing their services to the school. This spirit of professional cooperation is one of the noted features of the New England Association. The goal of an evaluation visit is to stimulate a continuing drive for improvement in the school.”NEASC is an organization comprised of more than 2,000 educational institutions in the state. The Commission works with individual public schools to improve the quality of education through a continuous process of accreditation and evaluation. A reception for the NEASC Visiting Committee will be held Oct. 31 at noon at Swampscott High School, 200 Essex St. The event will include a panel presentation to highlight student work and excellence. A luncheon and various meetings will follow the panel presentation. The event is open to members of the Swampscott community. Attendees are asked to RSVP by emailing Jamie Bryanos at [email protected].
