LYNN – Word reached supporters Wednesday that Gordon “Buzzy” Barton will run for a City Council seat in the 2011 municipal elections.Barton has repeatedly indicated he would seek a council seat, without pinning down whether his ambition involves a ward representation or a councilor-at-large seat.A retired Lynn firefighter, Barton is the son of the late prominent community leader Virginia Barton and brother of retired Lynn educator Patricia Barton, who on Tuesday was officially appointed as a member of the city’s License Commission.Barton, 58, 11 Brooks St., is also the head basketball coach at Lynn English High School. The Committee to Elect Buzzy Barton sent out a mailer to a list of supporters this week, inviting them to a Nov. 10 event at the Porthole Pub restaurant on the Lynnway, where Barton is scheduled to announce his candidacy for councilor-at-large.”Running for City Council has always been a goal of mine while serving the city in many volunteer positions,” Barton said Wednesday. “It’s something I decided to do when I retired from the Fire Department six years ago. I have one more year of coaching and then I’m all in.”
