Lynn’s student-athletes will now be hanging up their cleats, sneakers and skates on Sundays. The School Committee voted this week to keep sports activities to a six-day-a-week schedule.”I have talked to many people about this,” said Vincent Spirito, chairman of the Athletics Subcommittee. “We need one day of rest without any activities. Sunday is a day of worship, and a day for family.”Other members of the School Committee unanimously supported the idea.”I totally agree with this,” said John Ford. “We do have games on Sundays that are scheduled for convenience, but that shouldn’t preempt this.”Although the committee voted to make the new policy effective immediately, they agreed to make an exception for games that have already been scheduled.”I think those need to be grandfathered in,” said Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy, chairwoman of the committee.Committee member Richard Starbard raised the problem that coaches and teams would face if bad weather forced scheduled games to be canceled on Friday, and again on Saturday. The committee agreed that, in those cases, games can be scheduled and played on Sundays.
