Roundup: Classical volleyball gets better of English

The Classical and English volleyball teams clashed on Thursday night, as the Rams squeaked by the Bulldogs 3-0.It was three very close games between the Rams and Bulldogs (25-22, 25-23, 25-23). Tashanna Brown and Kim Eldred had strong performances for Classical. Classical coach Frank Grealish was very happy with his team’s performance.”They were all very close games throughout. Both teams played very well and it was a lot of fun to watch. I am just happy that my team came out on top,” Grealish said.Classical was 2-0 against English this season. Classical is now 2-13.FIELD HOCKEYSaugus 4, Everett 2At Everett, the Sachems were tied 1-1 at the half, but outscored Everett 3-1 in the second half. Leading the way for Saugus was Nichole Lowe (3 goals). Mary Orlando chipped in with a goal. Emily McBride, Jackie Doherty and Taylor Corrado all provided one assist each. Saugus is 13-3-2.Marblehead 6, Swampscott 2At Swampscott, it was a tight game at half (3-2 Marblehead) but the Magicians outscored Swampscott 3-0 in the second half. Leading the Magicians (15-1-2) was Julia Burke (3 goals, 1 assist). Anna Driscoll added 2 goals. Courtney Miller chipped in with one goal and one assist. Swampscott received strong performances from Julieanne Marquis (1 goal), Georgia Polemenakos (2 assists) and Tori Thistle (1 goal). Swampscott is 8-7-3.Gloucester 3, Danvers 2At Gloucester, the Falcons trailed 3-1 in the first half. Sarah Prada and Seth Kamens provided the offense for Danvers (1 goal each). Danvers finished 10-7-1.BOYS CROSS COUNTRYCCL ChampionshipAt Franklin Park, Fenwick finished in first place overall at the CCL Championship. Leading the way for Fenwick was Bill Harrington, who finished first overall (17:06). Joe O’Brien finished fourth (18:01) and Kevin Fini finished fifth (18:10).GIRLS CROSS COUNTRYCCL ChampionshipAt Franklin Park, Fenwick had a strong team effort and came in second place in the CCL. Fenwick’s Arianna Maida led the way, finishing second overall (20:54). Faye Haley finished seventh (21:50), Alicia Tatone finished 17th (24:00) and Meg McCarthy finished 18th (24:01).
