MARBLEHEAD ? All season long, Marblehead High football coach Jim Rudloff has been asking his team for a complete effort. Last night, he finally got it.Will Quigley rushed for 270 yards and a touchdown while Ryan Stanojev caught one TD and passed to Matt Perlow for another to lead the Magicians to a 28-12 win over Danvers, Friday night, at Piper Field. The Magicians scored 21 points in the second quarter and Quigley ran 89 yards for his touchdown on the first play from scrimmage in the second half to give Marblehead (4-4; 2-0 NEC Small) an insurmountable lead.Danvers12Marblehead28 Stanojev’s 18-yard TD reception was thrown by Dan Cobert, who also scored on a 1-yard run.”We finally played four quarters of football,” Rudloff said. “Coming off last week’s game (an comeback win over Saugus), we really needed to play an entire game. It (Saugus) game felt like a loss, just like the (1-point) loss to Pentucket (in the season opener) felt more like a game we should have won.”For Danvers (0-7; 0-3), Tyler Dora scored on a 1-yard run and Patrick McBride hauled in an 8-yard TD pass from Greg Little in the fourth quarter. The Falcons’ undoing was a pair of fumbles in the second quarter that Marblehead converted into two touchdowns.”We can’t put the ball on the ground against a good team like that,” Danvers coach Sean Rogers said. “We put the ball on the ground, and they score. We just can’t afford to make mistakes like that.”After a scoreless first quarter, Quigley ripped off his first of three big runs in the game, a 54-yard jaunt that put the ball at the Danvers 22-yard line. On the next play, Stanojev hit Perlow in stride on a slant pattern and the lanky receiver split the defense for the first touchdown of the game. Oliver Kim’s PAT kick was good and the Magicians led, 7-0, with 9:44 left in the first half.Perlow recovered a fumble at the Falcons’ 41 to end the next series and Marblehead scored 11 plays later. The Magicians converted twice on fourth down, with Quigley running for three yards on 4th-and-1, and Colbert connecting with Stanojev for 23 yards to move the ball to the 1-yard line. Colbert scored on a QB draw to make the score 14-0, with 1:06 left in the first half.Three plays later, Marblehead defensive lineman Liam Gilliland – who had a monster game – recovered a fumble at the Danvers 33. Colbert connected on three straight passes, the last of which was a lob to Stanojev in the back left corner of the end zone with 5.4 seconds left in the second quarter. The Magicians got the ball to open the second half and Quigley took the ball at his own 11, cut to the left and then avoided the last Danvers tackler with a move back to the middle at about the Falcons’ 20-yard line.Danvers scored on its next drive, a 52-yard march that included a 17-yard run by Nick Valles and ended with Dora’s plunge up the middle. The Falcons’ other scoring drive went 79 yards in nine plays and finished with just 8.4 seconds left in the game.
