MARBLEHEAD – They take General John Glover’s birthday pretty seriously at the Glover School.In fact, students, teachers and staff will spend an hour doing that this morning.Glover’s Marblehead Regiment, a team of Revolutionary War re-enactors, will visit the Glover School today complete with their period firearms, starting with the Pledge of Allegiance at the flagpole at 8:25 a.m., led by Mimi Shapiro.After opening remarks and introductions of the unit by Principal Mary Devlin, the regiment will march the kindergarten – Grade 3 students, teachers and staff into the school gym, gather on-stage and discuss the regiment’s daily life in the 18th century.Third-graders will take time to honor General Glover.The regiment includes Lieutenant Seamus Daley, Corporal Sean Conley, Auxiliary Corporals Steve Orne and Bob Erbetta and Private Tom Frary.Frary is a former Glover School student.Born in Salem on this date in 1732 – he moved to Marblehead with his family soon after – Glover joined the militia as a young man, impressed George Washington with his leadership skills and eventually outfitted the first ship in what would become the U.S. Navy. He became a hero in the Revolutionary War and, after retiring from the Army, served six terms as a Marblehead selectman, dying in 1797.
