Lynn man among dozens arrested in drug, gun raid

November 19, 2010 by Robin Kaminski

BROCKTON – Dozens of people, including a Lynn man, were arrested Thursday morning in a massive federal and state crackdown on drug and gun charges. The raid took place before dawn and netted 25 arrests by the Massachusetts State Police and agents of the FBI and the DEA. Ismael Figueroa, of Lynn, was among those arrested with others from Brockton, Hanover, South Easton, Dedham, Somerville and Stoughton.According to U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz’s office, officials have been working on the case since December 2009, where they intercepted phone calls and tapped phone lines at several locations around the state, piecing together a large-scale heroin distribution network in and around Brockton.A total of 16 search warrants were executed in multiple counties during the bust.”Today’s arrests should be a clear signal to those distributing drugs in our neighborhoods that the federal government is aggressively working with state and local law enforcement to track their movements, find their associates and close down their operations,” Ortiz said.Ten telephones used by the alleged members of a narcotics trafficking ring were intercepted with court-authorization, including cellular phones. The investigation revealed large-scale heroin distributors with numerous supplies of heroin sources, criminal associates and heroin customers. The targeted phones were said to have been used to receive and distribute in excess of one kilogram of heroin.”DEA and our law enforcement partners are committed to working together to make our communities safer for our citizens,” said Special Agent in Charge Steven Derr. “This investigation is a great example of cooperative law enforcement between federal, state and local law enforcement targeting a heroin drug trafficking organization which is now out of business. DEA will continue to target the most significant drug traffickers.”
