The Peabody High boys hockey team came on strong in the third period to put away Winthrop, 3-1, Wednesday at McVann-O’Keefe Rink in Peabody.After a scoreless first period, Chris LeBlanc put Winthrop on the board. Peabody fought back with Ryan Noftle scoring from Tom Burns and Tom Marmiani. Marmiani broke the tie on a goal early in the third period (Eric Muise assist) and sealed the win 10 minutes later when when Connor Purcell scored on a play set up by Nico Manganiello and Muise.”It was a great high school hockey game,” Peabody coach Mark Leonard said. “There was a lot of back and forth and some good hitting. We played a really strong third period.I’m happy to get the first win of the season.”Marblehead 6, Salem 0At Rockett Arena in Salem, Austin Haley had a pair of goals while Tyler Bates added a goal and an assist as the reigning Division 3 North champs began with a dominating win.Marblehead lead 4-0 after the first thanks to goals from Ian Maag, Alex Whitmore, Bates and Ryan Dempsey. Haley added two goals in the second period as the Magicians outshot Salem, 54-6, in the game.Beverly 3, Gloucester 2At Rockett Arena, Mitch Hamor had a hat trick for the Panthers with the final goal, the game-winner, coming on a power play with 2:16 remaining in the third period. Gloucester’s Ben Favazza scored in the first period to tie the game 1-1 and Sal Tarmina gave the Fishermen at 2-1 lead in the second. Hamor tied the game late in the second period.Lynnfield 8, Pentucket 2At Peabody, Dylan Costa-John Festa-Matt Kelly had a productive night for the Pioneers, scoring five of the eight goals. Costa and Festa each had two and Kelly one. Lynnfield is 1-0.St. John’s 11, Everett 0At Everett, the Eagles (1-0) had no trouble finding the net. Colin Blackwell and Jon Farrow had two goals each with single goals from Sam Kurker, Tyler Bird, Nick Pandelena, Brian Pinho, Derek Palm, Andrew Pierce and Jarrod Hines. David LeTarte and Dylan Blake combined for the shutout.Saugus 1, Danvers 1At Kasabuski Rink, Saugus, the Sachems led, 1-0, going into the third period.
