Hockey: Fenwick stays perfect and unscored upon in win over Matignon

Three games ? three wins ? and three shutouts for the Bishop Fenwick hockey team and goalie Brad Rocheville.On Saturday in Cambridge, Bret Kidik scored twice while Saugus’ Rocheville stonewalled the Warriors as the Crusaders moved to 3-0 with a 2-0 win at Buckingham Browne & Nichols.”It’s not easy to run off three shutouts in any game,” Fenwick coach Dan Lynch said. “We’re playing well defensively right now.”Fenwick dominated the game most of the way, including a 20-shot barrage in the first period, but only held a 1-0 lead after Kidik scored, assisted by Mike Cipriani and Joe Shea, midway through the period.Neither team could dent the scoreboard again until the third, when Kidik scored, again assisted by Shea and Cipriani, with a little over 2:00 left on the clock.Salem 5, Swampscott 4At Rockett Arena in Salem, the Witches (1-1) snapped a 22-game losing streak by coming back from a 4-2 deficit entering the third. Jesse Wilkins had a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the third.Swampscott (0-2) got a pair of goals from Gino Cresta but couldn’t convert on a 2-man advantage in the final minute of play.”It’s a big one for us,” Salem coach Brian Addesa said. “It says a lot about the character of these kids to come back like they did.”St. Mary’s 4, Duxbury 2At the Bog in Kingston, the Spartans (2-0) got a pair of goals from Bobby Mullins and a goal and two assists from James Perkins in the win.St. Mary’s led 2-0 after one on both of Mullins’ goals. The Dragons cut the lead to a goal early in the second before freshman Jordan Manthorne scored at the 5:03 mark to restore the two-goal cushion.Duxbury again closed to within a goal late in the period before Perkins’ goal at 4:11 of the third, assisted by Tommy Braswell, closed the scoring.Revere 4, Lynn 1At Connery Rink, the Jets (1-1, 1-1 NEC South) trailed 4-0 before John Finnegan got the Lynn goal, assisted by Kyle Devin, in the third period.Marblehead 6, Brookline 1At Rockett Arena in Salem, Chris McLeod scored twice as Marblehead put 68 shots on net in the win. Ryan Dempsey, Hunter Graves, Tyler Gelineau and Tyler Bates also had goals for the Headers.Saugus 3, Gloucester 3At Talbot Rink in Gloucester, the Sachems (0-0-2) let a 2-1 lead slip away in the third period before Kurt Rodrigues rescued a point for Saugus when he scored with 6:45 left in regulation.Mike Kotowski and Nick Sweeney also had goals for Saugus while the Fishermen (0-1-1) received tallies from John Interrante, Sal Taormina and Ben Favazza.Peabody 4, Beverly 3At Rockett Arena in Salem, the Tanners (2-0-0, 2-0-0 NEC Large) trailed 1-0 after a period on a goal from Mitch Hamor before turning on the jets. Rob Houghton had a pair of goals while Mike Chiappini and Ryan Noftle also scored as Peabody ripped off four unanswered markers.Beverly got a pair of goals in the final minute of play but came up short in its comeback bid.Malden Catholic 3, Delbarton (NJ) 0At Valley Forum II in Malden, Saugus’ Mike Vecchione had a goal and an assist as the Lancers (2-0) knocked off one of the top rated teams in the country. Ryan Fitzgerald had first and second period goals for the Lancers before Vecchione’s empty netter in the third.GIRLS HOCKEYSt. Mary’s 8, Williams 1At Connery Rink, Gina Beth Manganiello had a hat trick as the Spartans (2-0-1) exploded for six first-period goals. Allison Butler had a pair of goals and two assists while Sabrina Iannetti added a goal and two assists.Marisa Maccario and Bridget Donovan also had goals for St. Mary’s.M’head 3, Shrewsbury 1At Buffone Rink in Worcester, Eliza Quigley, Casey McDonald and Rachel Ullian all scored for Marblehead. Katie Zarinsky had an assist. Molly Depew made 17 saves.Beverly 4, Masco 0At Talbot Rink in Gloucester, the Panthers’ (2-0) top unit of Clare Leathersich, Olivia Konaxis and Nicole Woods had quite the game. Leathersich had two goals and two assists while Woods added a goal and three assists and Konaxis had a goal and two assists.
