Boys Hoop: Fenwick reaches Tanner Holiday Classic final

Getting a balanced effort, the Bishop Fenwick boys basketball team defeated North Shore, 64-55, in round one of the Tanner Holiday Classic at Peabody on Tuesday.The Crusaders (1-2) meet Somerville in the final today (8).Fenwick led 32-27 at halftime. Alex Morsey led the Crusaders with 17 points; he also had four assists and six boards. Billy Klemczuk had 16 points, seven rebounds and a big second half, according to coach Mike Kane. Michael LaChance added 13 points and Joshua Babb (9 points, 7 assists, 4 steals, 6 rebounds) drew praise from the coach for a solid second quarter performance.Somerville 75, Peabody 73At Peabody in round one of the Tanner Holiday Classic, the Tanners (1-4) made it close in the second half but couldn’t prevail. Jon Byrne led Peabody with 22 points. Kyle Boyce and Fotakos Sotiri each had 11 and Bryan DeAngelis had 10. Peabody will play North Shore in the consolation today (4).”It was a great game,” Peabody coach Dominic Coleman said. “I’m proud of my kids. They played hard. We were just a little short.”Prep 53, New Mission 49At Chelsea, the Eagles (4-0) reached the finals of the Chelsea Holiday Tournament. They will play New Bedford in the finals today (3).Steve Haladyna led the Prep with 23 points against New Mission and Pat Connaughton added 16. The Eagles were up 31-17 at halftime before New Mission made things interesting in the second half.”They’re a very good team,” Prep coach Sean Connolly said of New Mission. “They have really good players. They’re tough.”Also, the Marblehead High boys team advanced in a tournament in York, Maine, and will continue play tonight.
