Roundup: Grocki leads St. Mary’s boys track past Cathedral

Senior Ian Grocki won three events as the St. Mary’s indoor track team defeated Cathedral, 71-13, at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury on Tuesday.”He was very versatile for us (Tuesday),” said Spartans coach Tom Donahue of Grocki, who is from Saugus. “We were short on numbers due to the holiday and the weather. He did a really nice job.”Grocki won the 600 (2:07), long jump (14-5) and shot put (35-7) for the Spartans (2-1).Other boys winners for St. Mary’s included Paul Halas, 300 (50.21); and Chris Soundis, mile (7:00).Girls winners for St. Mary’s included double winner Briana Anderson (55 dash, 8:13, and 300, 48:33); Emily Hatchovel, 1,000 (4:50); and Abby Caggiano, shot put (19-6).GIRLS TRACKMarblehead 54, Classical 32At Marblehead, the Magicians’ Lily Cummings qualified for the states with a leap of 5-0 in the high jump in what Marblehead coach Mike Toomey called “the biggest performance of the day.”Other winners for Marblehead (2-1, 0-1 NEC Large) included Bronte Price, 55 hurdles (9.7); Gretchen Rowe, 600 (1:47); Madeline Piela, 1,000 (3:31); Alex Gerard, mile (6:10); and the relay team of Emma McGuirk, Rowe, Gerard and Maura Tubridy.Winners for Classical (1-2, 1-0 NEC Small) included Saffi Bangura, 55 (7.9); Hulerie McGuffie, 300 (45.7); Alison Kurpiel, 2-mile (14:54); and Mackenzie Coppinger, shot put (28-6).Gloucester 49, English 34At Gloucester, the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0 NEC Small) winners were Shakira Llewellyn, 50 (6.4) and Alex Henry, 600 (1:54.4).The Fishermen (2-1, 0-1 NEC Large) winners were Victoria Hilshey, high jump (4-4) and 50 hurdles (8.9); Ellie Cornavaca, shot put (24-1/2); Bianca Giacalone, 300 (45.4); Kenna O’Maley, 1,000 (3:47); Corrine DeLouise, mile (6:40); Cecily Francis, 2-mile (14:10.3); and the relay (5:21.4).Danvers 59, Saugus 27At Danvers, the Saugus (0-3, 0-1 NEC Small) winners were Ashley Aldred, high jump (4-8); Mary Dixon, 55 (7.9); and the relay (4:50).The Danvers (3-0, 1-0 NEC Large) winners were Carson Garvin, shot put (31-5); Jennifer Bottari, 55 hurdles (10.5); Emily Behen, 300 (47.3); Bridget Leahy, 600 (2:02.7); Kristin Yost, 1,000 (3:43.3); Erin Barker, mile (6:15:4); and Courtney Godfrey, 2-mile (14:41.0).Fenwick 54, Marian 14At the Reggie Lewis Center, the Fenwick (3-0) winners were Jessica Patnaude, 300 (48.1); Faye Haley, 1,000 (3:21); Ariana Maida, 2-mile (12:05); and Jessica Giglio, dash (8.1).
