January 10, 2011 by Karen A. Kapsourakis

Jurors heard opening statements Monday in Salem Superior Court in the murder trial of Jose Cabrera, 20, the Lynn man charged with shooting and killing a rival gang member on Olive Street in 2008.?Tony Pich had turned his life around. He was no longer a street kid. He had a job and family. Later he would be gunned down by a single bullet, killing him at age 22. We will prove without certainty that this defendant (Jose Cabrera) killed Tony Pich,” Assistant District Attorney Kristen R. Buxton told the jury in her opening statement. But defense lawyer Jeffrey T. Karp said his client had “nothing to do with Tony Pich?s murder.”Read Tuesday’s Daily Item for complete coverage of the murder trial.
