Hockey: Fenwick rolls to win over Lynn

The Bishop Fenwick hockey team had all eight cylinders going at full steam on Monday at McVann-O’Keefe Rink.The Crusaders scored four times in each of the first two periods en route to a dominating 10-1 win over the Lynn Jets.Click here for a photo gallery.”Give Fenwick credit, they came out and took it to us,” Lynn coach Joe Conlon said. “From top to bottom we didn’t play very well (Monday).”The Crusaders (7-2-0) scored three times in the final 2:14 of the first period to basically break the game open. Jake Brennan had a pair of goals for Fenwick while Matt Anderson and Nick Amirault had a goal and two assists each.Mike Napolitano; Drew Thibodeau; Joe Shea; Nick Finan and Andrew Young also had goals. The Jets (2-6-1) goal came from Kyle Martin, assisted by Kyle Devin, late in the third period.”We just didn’t want to get into any bad habits,” Fenwick coach Dan Lynch said. “These games are tough to play?I have a lot of respect for Joe and his coaches over there and we’ve been on that end of games like this before.”Lincoln-Sudbury 4, Peabody 2At the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, the lone remaining unbeaten team in Division 2 North went down to defeat as the Tanners (6-1-1) lost defensemen Ryan Noftle and Chris Minter during the game but still were tied 2-2 until late in the second when L-S got the winner.Mike Chiappini and Derek Demild had second period goals for Peabody to help the Tanners erase a 2-0 deficit after one. Jordan Don’s goal late in the second was followed by a Henry Fairborn goal late in the third to give the Warriors the win.Peabody coach Mark Leonard said that both Noftle and Minter will be back when the Tanners host Saugus on Wednesday.Marblehead 7, Agawam 1At the Olympia Center in West Springfield, Ian Maag’s hat trick got the Headers (6-3-2) back on the winning track after back-to-back losses. Marblehead led 2-0 after one and then exploded for seven second-period goals.Jake Kulevich and Ryan Dempsey had a goal and an assist each while Ben Koopman had four assists. Hunter Graves and Chris McLeod had the other Header goals.Swampscott 6, St. Clement 2At Porazzo Rink in East Boston, four third-period goals helped the Big Blue (3-6) shake off a slow start. Gino Cresta had a pair of goals and an assist while Nunzio Morretti and Rob Serino had a goal and an assist each.Griffin Hunt and Trevor Massey also had a goal while Chris Finley and Chris Carmen had two assists each.Lynnfield 1, No. Reading 1At Burbank Rink, North Reading took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Cam Knight in the first period, but the Pioneers (5-3-2) salvaged the tie on an Alex Ganter goal late in the second period. Lynnfield outshot the Hornets 30-17, ringing three off the posts.Beverly 4, Matignon 1At Cambridge, the Panthers (8-2-1) broke open a tight game with a pair of third period goals as Mitch Hamor had two goals and an assist while Brenden Mitchell had a goal and two assists.Andy Brown and Troy Cabral had the other Beverly goals.GIRLS HOCKEYSt. Mary’s 4, Arlington 0At Ed Burns Arena in Arlington, the Spartans (7-0-2) put together one of their best games of the season and used three third-period goals to dispatch the hosts.”It was probably our best game of the year,” St. Mary’s coach Frank Pagliuca said. “We played a solid three periods and came out ready to play.”Despite having a 31-3 shots on goal advantage, St. Mary’s still only led 1-0 through two periods thanks to a Marisa Maccario goal at 8:07 of the middle frame. The Spartans then got an insurance goal when Sabrina Iannetti scored with 3:53 remaining before Alison Butler and Michaela Donovan scored in the final minute.Chelmsford 2, Marblehead 1At Chelmsford, the Magicians (6-3-0) had a goal from Rachel Ulian and a strong game in net from Molly Depew (17 saves). All three goals were scored in the final period.Winthrop 2, Springfield Cathedral 2At Springfield Saturday, the combined Winthrop/Lynn/Saugus team pulled one out of the fire.
