When will it end? More snow on tap

LYNN – Two words that the majority of New Englanders probably don’t want to hear: more snow. The National Weather Service is reporting that the city of Lynn and surrounding areas should expect anywhere from six to eight inches of snow starting Thursday night through Friday.Current weather reports show that the snow is expected to begin after 4 p.m. on Thursday and continue accumulating until around 3 p.m. on Friday.Although six inches of snow doesn’t quite compare to the 18 to 20 inches that many parts of Massachusetts have already seen this winter, Swampscott Director of Public Works Gino Cresta said preparing for the upcoming snow fall is still imminent.”We’re pushing back as much snow as we can right now to make room for the additional snow we will get,” said Cresta. He said that Swampscott DPW workers have been working for the past four days on hauling away large piles of snow to the back of Phillips Park in Swampscott.”We’ve been hauling away all of the large snow piles from main streets and intersections before they have the chance to get any bigger,” said Cresta. “We will continue hauling away piles until Thursday morning. We need to make sure the streets are as clear as possible and that the large towers of snow are gone to prepare for the additional snow.”Cresta said dealing with the upcoming snow storm won’t be nearly as bad previous storms.”Anything’s better than the 18 to 20 inches that recent storms have brought,” he said. “All the guys are ready for it though. We feel prepared.”Cresta said in preparation for the snow fall, DPW workers will begin salting and sanding the streets before snow starts to fall tonight. “We will salt and sand the streets until it starts to snow and then when it accumulates to around two to three inches we will start scraping,” said Cresta. “We have plenty of equipment so we should be ready.”
