The St. Mary’s girls basketball team did exactly that Saturday, coming from behind to scratch out a 55-43 win at Austin Prep.The Spartans (6-1, 12-1) found themselves down by one at the half, 24-23, but turned things around after intermission to secure a double-digit win. Austin Prep (0-6, 1-7) remained winless in the Catholic Central Large.”It was a physical game and we didn’t play particularly well. You’re not going to have your ‘A’ game every time and we had enough to get by and grind out a win on the road, which is very tough to do in this league,” said coach Jeff Newhall.Tori Faieta (12 points, 8 blocks), Cassi Amenta (11 points, 8 rebounds) and Kirsten Ferrari (10 points, 12 assists, 7 steals) powered the Spartans with strong two-way games. Ashley Duhaime tied for ninth in the high jump relay, clearing 4-4.The Bishop Fenwick girls finished 14th with nine points and the Bishop Fenwick boys were ninth with 10 points. The Crusaders’ girls ran fifth in the 4×200 relay in 1:55.05, sixth in the 4×50 relay in 26.7, seventh in the distance medley (13:29.17) and seventh in the 4×800 relay. Kristina Moran was second in the shot put with a throw of 34-1 1/4, pacing a third-place effort. The Fenwick boys were third in the 4×800 in 8:47.36 and Zach Nardone won the shot put with a throw of 47-6 1/2, leading a fourth-place team finish.
