The Fenwick girls basketball team defeated Wilmington 57-50 as Crusader star Amy Pelletier scored her 1,000th career point Thursday night at Wilmington.Pelletier reached the milestone in the third quarter as Fenwick was sprinting away with a victory. Fenwick coach Tim Harrington knew how much this has been racking Pelletier’s mind.”I am glad to see that Amy got to this milestone. I could tell she was a little nervous and tentative during the game, but once she scored her 1,000th point, she settled in to the Amy we all know and love,” Harrington said.Fenwick had a 10-point lead at the half and never looked back. Leading the way for Fenwick was Pelletier (16 points, 4 steals, 5 assists). They rebounded and shot much better than my team tonight, they played a very good basketball game,” Sawyer said.Leading the way for Saugus was the trio of Jackie Doherty (17 points), Alyssa Furtado (14 points) and Jackie Nicholas (14 points). The trio combined to score 45 of Saugus’s 60 points. Classical received a strong shooting night from Jenna Kulakowski (9 points). Freshman Franki Galeazzi had 12 points, Hannah Byrne, 10 points and Kristin Lauria, nine points. Classical is now 8-6.Lynnfield 48, Malden 40At Lynnfield, the Pioneers got off to a quick start, taking a 28-14 lead at the half. Pioneer coach Pam McDonald was very happy with her team’s performance.”It was good to see my team get back on track today. They played very well and hard today and it was good to see them come out on top,” McDonald said.Leading the way for Lynnfield was Jillian Fama (21 points). Kelsey LeBlanc had a strong game as well, posting a season high 13 points. Lynnfield is now 6-7.BOYS BASKETBALLClassical 67, Saugus 41At Classical, the Rams were in a tight game early but an explosive third quarter was the key. Classical was only up 10 at the half, but outscored the Sachems 22-11 in the third quarter and never looked back. Classical coach Tom Grassa was very happy with his team’s performance.”My team probably had its best shooting day of the year so far. They played very consistent and disciplined on defense and overall I was very satisfied with the effort,” Grassa said.Leading the way for Classical was Nick Grassa with 17 points and Carlo Buono (7 points, 9 assists). Saugus received a strong performance from Omar Benabicha (15 points). Classical is now 9-6.Saugus coach Paul Moran commended the Rams and coach Grassa for a great game.Cathedral 60, Fenwick 41At Fenwick, Fenwick dug itself an early 19-7 deficit and never could fully recover after that. Fenwick coach Mike Kane was happy with his team’s effort.”My team played very hard today despite the result. Cathedral is just one of the better teams in our conference, you have to give them a lot of credit,” Kane said.Alex Morsey had a strong game for Fenwick (19 points, 6 steals).
