SALEM – Bail for a Malden man, who went on a two-day crime spree robbing local banks stealing thousands, remains at $50,000 cash following his arraignment in Salem Superior Court.Daniel Clark, 40, of 1036 Main St., Malden, pleaded not guilty to two counts of unarmed robbery before Judge John T. Lu who agreed to continue the same bail amount previously established in District Court. The defense may seek a bail review at another court hearing. In the meantime, Clark remains held in lieu of bail at Shirley Correctional Institute.Assistant District Attorney Michael Patten said the charges arise out of two bank holdups last summer, one in Saugus and the other in Salem. On July 14 just before noon police say Clark walked into the Saugus Cooperative Bank, located at 489 Lincoln Ave., in Saugus. The holdup man was described as a white male wearing a scally cap, gray T-shirt, khaki colored shorts and sunglasses. He walked up to the nearest teller, passed a note demanding money and fled on foot with $1,134 in cash up Jackson Street. The next day, July 15 at 5:15 p.m., Clark allegedly walked into the Seaport Credit Union, located at 336 Lafayette St., in Salem, again showed a note demanding cash and fled with $760 in cash. Both holdups were captured on the bank?s video cameras. He was arrested a week later in Lynn on a probation violation and was identified by the tellers through a photo array, police said.Clark is due back in court on March 7 for a pretrial conference. He faces a potential life sentence on each of the charges, if convicted.
