Nahant board OKs 10th assistant harbormaster

NAHANT – Selectmen appointed Joel Marie as assistant harbormaster at their meeting Wednesday.Harbormaster Rob Tibbo said Marie, a commercial lobsterman, would be a valuable resource to the harbormaster.”He grew up here in town and he’s out there on the water five or six days a week,” Tibbo said. “We’re out there to promote safety. Joel (Marie) is very knowledgeable on the water and can help us do that.”Selectman Michael Manning said Marie would be an excellent assistant harbormaster.”He has the best interest of the wharf and boating community at heart. A number of people in the boating community use him to set moorings and other things,” he said. “He’s warm, personable and knowledgeable.”Selectman Richard Lombard said Marie is a good choice.”He (Marie) has been a fisherman for 30 years,” Lombard said. “I am more than comfortable appointing him. He’ll do a superb job.”Selectmen voted 3-0 to appoint Marie.The other assistant harbormasters are: Carl Jenkins, Michael Kairevich Jr., Ed Locke, Joshua Mahoney, Andy Puleo, Roz Puleo, Stephen Schultz, Sue Snow and Jonathan Tibbo.Attempts to reach Marie on Thursday were unsuccessful.In other business, the selectmen appointed Brendan Coffey to the alternative energy committee.
