LYNN – A Lynn teen allegedly threw a fit on Sunday at her home on South Common Street, where she smashed her roommate’s pricey stereo equipment and then smeared hair gel all over it.Tajanetta M. Downing, 19, of 86 South Common St., was charged with malicious destruction of property over $250, domestic assault and battery. She was arraigned Tuesday at Lynn District Court by Judge Albert Conlon and released on personal recognizance under the condition that she stay away from and not have contact with the victim. A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for April 5.According to court documents, police say Downing and one of the victims both called to report a disturbance on South Common Street. The 44-year-old victim said he had returned home with a male friend and when they went to sit down on a couch, they found Downing laying there with her feet extended off of it. The victim said his leg hit hers as he walked by and that she said to him, “You could say excuse me.” After the victim said “excuse me,” Downing allegedly swore at him, prompting an argument between them. After a few minutes, the victim said he asked his friend to help him move a few items to the basement. As they were walking downstairs, Downing allegedly followed them and began swearing when some of her clothing was moved and then allegedly slammed the victim’s stereo equipment on the ground. At that point, a female relative of Downing’s came downstairs to confront her, but the two ended up getting into an argument, where Downing allegedly grabbed her by her hair and began pulling on it. The other victim broke up the fight and told Downing to gather her things and get out of the house. In the meantime, the stereo, estimated to be worth $1,000, was placed back on a shelf and the rest of the group went upstairs. A few minutes later, the victim said he heard a loud banging coming from the basement and when he ran downstairs to see what was going on, he alleged that Downing had again thrown the stereo on the floor and this time smeared hair gel on top of it.Police were then called to remove Downing from the home, saying that she needed help for her anger issues. Downing, however, claimed she was the one who was assaulted when the victim hit her feet with his legs as he walked by her.
