SALEM – A Lynn man authorities say they caught carrying a stolen flat screen television set down Estes Street last summer remains held on $5,000 cash bail at the Middleton Jail, after saying he committed no crime. In Salem Superior Court Friday morning, Winston Forbes, 47, of 331 Eastern Ave., pleaded innocent to a single charge of receiving stolen property before Judge Robert A. Cornetta. The judge set the bail jointly recommended by Assistant District Attorney Christina Pujals Ronan and public defender Alice Jayne, and also agreed to leave the door open for a bail review at another court hearing. The charge stems from his arrest on the evening of Aug. 29 when Lynn Police Officer Timothy Ferrari spotted Forbes carrying a 19-inch flat-screen television set down Estes Street.Police learned the television set had been reported stolen earlier that day during a house break on Bassett Street.Because Forbes has a prior conviction for receiving stolen property he faces a mandatory year in prison. The case was continued by agreement until March 28 for a pretrial conference.
