LYNN – A Revere man is being held on $10,000 cash bail after allegedly punching, kicking and biting three police officers and threatening to kill one officer’s wife.Robert A. Wilkins, 48, 400 Revere Beach Parkway #212, is being held at Lynn District Court after he was arrested around 8 p.m. Thursday on charges of three counts of assault and battery on a police officer, assault with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), resisting arrest, disguise to obstruct justice, threatening to commit a crime and seven warrants.According to the police report, Lynn police officers were dispatched to Commercial Street Thursday night on a report of an intoxicated male walking in and out of the street. When police arrived, the male who fit the description was walking on Commercial Street and later went into M.C. Heald Liquor Store. Officers approached the individual and asked him his name and he told officers that his name was “Michael Smith.” Police say the individual had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and was slurring his speech. The so-called “Michael Smith” was then brought outside by officers for further questioning, during which he lied to officers about his date of birth by saying that he was 40 years old yet gave a birth date of March 16, 1964.The individual could not provide a social security number or ID, was later placed into protective custody for his health and safety, according to the police report, and transported to the Lynn Police station. Officers later discovered that “Smith” was actually Robert Wilkins, who had four warrants out of Chelsea and Boston. The police report states that when it was time to take Wilkins’ booking photo, an officer removed Wilkins’ handcuffs and asked him to stand up for the photo. Wilkins then allegedly pushed the officer with two hands and swung and hit the officer closed-fist to the forehead before delivering a second punch which the officer was able to avoid. The officer then grabbed Wilkins and wrestled him to the floor before two additional officers responded to assist. While trying to place Wilkins back into handcuffs, Wilkins kicked his legs in the direction of one of the assisting officers before he was successfully handcuffed again. Officers then sat Wilkins up before he turned his head and bit one of the officers on the hand/fingertip, according to the police report.Wilkins was then wrestled back to the floor, placed into leg cuffs, escorted to a cell and placed into a restraint chair. During this process, Wilkins made verbal threats towards one officer, stating, “I’m going to smash you in the head with a brick” and “I’m going to find your family and kill your wife.”While officers were completing the booking process, they heard a loud banging noise coming from the cell area. They observed that the individual making the noise was Wilkins and he was standing by the cell door head butting it multiple times. The officers involved in the assault were not in need of medical attention, according to the police report.Wilkins was arraigned Friday at Lynn District Court by Judge James H. Wexler and is set for a pretrial hearing on March 17.
