Several college baseball players with North Shore ties got to play against the Boston Red Sox this past weekend. On Saturday afternoon, Boston College sophomore right-hander Hunter Gordon of Swampscott threw a scoreless inning against the Red Sox in the Eagles’ 6-0 loss at City of Palms Park in Fort Myers, Fla. The Sox one-hit the Eagles, with BC’s lone safety coming off the bat of Jim Laufer in the top of the seventh (Laufer was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double). On Saturday night, the Sox took a 13-2 decision over Northeastern, also at City of Palms Park. Huskies sophomore Chris Carmain of Methuen/St. John’s Prep came into the game with the bases loaded and one out in the fourth with the Sox up 4-2. Carmain struck out Tim Federowicz for the second out. A wild pitch to Yamaico Navarro scored the Sox’ fifth run ? but Carmain induced Navarro to hit a sinking line drive that was caught by shortstop Jimmy Fuller for the third out.
