LYNN – On a quest for marijuana, a Lynn man allegedly pistol-whipped another man Tuesday night, frustrated that the victim did not sell the drug he was looking for.The suspect, Joseph M. Singleton, 23, of 84B Green St., was arraigned Wednesday at Lynn District Court by Judge Ellen Flatley on charges of armed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, handgun. He was ordered held in lieu of $1,500 cash bail, with a probable cause hearing scheduled for April 7.According to court documents, the 25-year-old victim told police that he was walking down Union Street around 7 p.m., when Singleton allegedly approached him and said he wanted to buy marijuana, while motioning that he had a gun in his waistband. After repeatedly saying that he didn’t sell marijuana, the victim alleged that Singleton grabbed him by his arm and dragged him to the rear of 200 Union St., continuing to demand that he sell him the drug. After denying that he had the drug on him, Singleton allegedly pulled out the gun from his waistband and hit the victim on the back of his head, stealing his cellular phone and $100 in cash as he laid on the ground in pain.As Singleton ran down School Street, the victim said he stumbled into the Family Dollar store for help. A few minutes after the victim spoke with police, nearby officers spotted Singleton near Green Street but, when the suspect made eye contact with the officers, he began to run. After police caught up with him, the victim stopped by and positively identified Singleton as the alleged suspect. Police say he did not have the alleged gun or money on him when he was stopped and an extensive search of the area did not result in either being found. The discarded phone, however, was found about 20 yards away.Singleton is currently on probation until 2026 for armed robbery in Rhode Island.
