SALEM – A former Revere man, described by a prosecutor as a “career thief,” was sentenced to as many as 10 years in state prison after confessing to a three-week crime spree.He broke into five homes in Salem during that time and stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, laptops and other items.Patrick Cautillo, 33, who last lived at 19 Piedmont St., Salem, pleaded guilty Thursday afternoon in Salem Superior Court, confessing to five counts of breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony and five counts of larceny of more than $250 before Judge David A. Lowy.Cautillo was sentenced to serve not less than seven years and not more than 10 years in state prison on the breaking and entering charge.Cautillo also received another four to five years in state prison on the larceny over $250 charge, but that will run at the same time with the seven to 10-year sentence.Assistant District Attorney Kristen R. Buxton described Cautillo as a “career thief.”Buxton pointed out to Lowy that Cautillo’s career began as a juvenile and that he has spent probably a total of a decade behind bars on the various crimes, involving burglary and larceny cases.The charges he admitted to involved break-ins at homes between April 30, 2010 and May 15, 2010 in South Salem on Clifton Avenue, Canal Street, Buchanan Road and Loring Avenue, where he made off with electronics, jewelry, iPods and other sentimental items.
